A few things I've learned over the past 2 weeks...
- no matter how bad a student may misbehave one day, the next day starts one a clean slate - it is important to wipe that slate away
- completing activities together as a class is a very difficult task- some students will always work faster while others work slower
- kids react differently to the same punishment- some kids will take it like a man while others take it like a baby
- there is a little smile within myself when a student ends up crying due to missing recess because of misbehavior
- 1st graders are wiggle worms... they can't sit still for more than a minute
- kids are full of germs- tissues should be available at all times
- when you say something about there being a lot of coughing, a chorus of coughs erupts
- kids will tell you the most random things
- teachers must be able to stand firm and consistent in managment, but moments for fun are essential. Everyone neeeds a good smile, once in a while!

I like that you're saying first graders will take punishment like man. :) Sounds like you're learning a lot- and that you have plenty of amusing stories!
