First Day of Inservice

Well my first inservice day is over, I survived, am not nervous anymore, and am super excited! I'll be in the same classroom for most of the year, which is a 1st grade class with my mentor teacher, Mrs. Walker. After getting to know her today, I believe that we are going to have an awesome year and will work really well together. I know that I will learn so much from her and have so many great experiences. I get my own desk too! We spent the morning at an all school staff meeting. The principal and assistants discussed many of the policies and procedures of the school. Many of these things went over my head but I'm sure I'll become more familar with them as I spend more time in the school. I met the whole 1st grade team and am so excited to work with all of them. There are 7 1st grade classrooms! This is a huge school! We will have 18 kids in our class. 11 boys and 7 girls. Before lunch, I hung the alphabet letters on the wall for our word wall. After lunch, we had a mentor/intern meeting in the library with our UT advisors. It was good to see Patty, Gina, and recently added Ann. After that meeting, we went back to the classroom and did a few more organizational things before calling it a day and heading home. Another neat thing about my mentor is that she was once an intern with the teacher that I observed last year for a few weeks, and has been at Dogwood ever since. She has also been a mentor for the teacher next door and seems really involved in the school. We are definitely on the same page for many things and I think it will be so much fun to work together! More later!

  1. I'm so glad you like your mentor. And your own desk, that's cool. So now I know the name of your school, Dogwood. Cute!
