This was the quesiton that a little kid asked me today, and at first it took me by surprised. Still hard for me to consider myself a teacher. I'm gradully accepting the status.
So begins another exciting week...and a shorter one at that! Monday was a holiday and that meant no school! My day started off by helping to test all the students in grades 1-5 in reading. Basically I got to test about 15 kids on their reading ability. I had some amazing readers especially in the upper grades and it made me think about how much more I would be able to do with kids who could already read. But then after testing the 1st graders I was reminded of how much they will learn and grow this year and how exciting it is to be part of that! This week I am continuing to teach most of the afternoon with our science and math lessons. Tomorrow I have my first evaluation by my UT supervisor. It is informal, but I'm still a little nervous about it. I'm doing my lesson on animal babies and adults. We are going to read Are you my mother? and then talk about animal babies and their parents before doing a matching game. Hopefully the little kiddos will cooperate and enjoy my lesson and not get too wild! Even though there are a few that still seem "lost in space" or "completely crazy" I'm really beginning to grow fond of these kids and the things that they do and say! It's especially fun to hear some of the things they say on the playground to each other. Overtime I'm sure I'll be able to better sort out my thoughts and actually write about some specific instances, but for now there is still so much going through my mind. I definitely catch myself smiling or laughing at the things that they say many times throughout the day!
